The good thing about having been in Rome many times is you can skip all the must-sees. So this weekend in Rome, we did not do Colosseum, Vatican museums, Spanish steps or any of the other well known spots.

As we wanted to avoid staying in the busy city center we picked the Pigneto area. And this area has stolen our heart. A friendly area, nice restaurants and friendly people. And even though you can get to the city center in 30 minutes or so, there is hardly a tourist in the area.

We had a beautiful Airbnb (Pigneto Life) that I can absolutely recommend for 2 people. The apartment with roof terrace even has 2 folding bikes that we have used all across Rome.

The Via del Pigneto has a few nice restaurants. Our favourite was Pigneto 1870, a fairly new restaurant that was opened this year (although the name would suggest something different)

A good glass wine and some cheese or salami is offered at La Santeria Pizzicheria-Bistrot For a pizza in the area I would recommend Margari. And for a morning cappuccino we loved Dar Ciriola

If you want a budget friendly stay in Rome, and prefer to avoid loads of tourists, Pigneto is definitely the area to go.
