30 Jun Diner at Mini Bar
It happened to be my birthday when we were in Lisbon, so a great opportunity to pick a great restaurant. And we chose Mini Bar by Jose Avillez.
I am a big fan of Portuguese chef Jose Avillez ever since we had diner at Cantinho do Avillez two years ago. And I have cooked several recipes from the books he had published. By now we have eaten in all but one of his restaurants. So we have been in Cantinho do Avillez in both Porto and Lisbon, and also in Cafe Lisboa and Pizzeria Lisboa. Mini Bar was the fifth in line (we are only missing Belcanto, the two Michelin star restaurant)
Mini Bar is classified below Belcanto, but more advanced than the other restaurants. The restaurant is in a theatre, and the menus are theatrical. We chose the Epic Menu, which was a surprise tasting menu.
We very much enjoyed all the dishes that passed by. If you plan to visit Mini Bar soon, don’t continue reading, as the text contains spoilers!
Before talking about the dishes, I want to share something about the service. The staff is extremely friendly, but also knowledgeable about both the dishes and the wines. So apart from the great food this is a very pleasant place to spend a (birthday) night.
Hereby the pictures (as the light was a bit low, they are not great pictures)
This was definitely one of the best birthday diners in my life! Jose Avillez is an amazing chef, and the dishes at Mini Bar continued to surprise us.
